Today’s town covers only about 231 acres with some 25% of all homes fronting on the water.

First homesteaded in 1886, the area proved ideal for farming of strawberries, vegetables, and even holly.  It was a tranquil place for decades, but as progress affects all communities, developers were increasingly interested in this prime location.  Townspeople decided to incorporate in June 1959 in order to have the legal protection necessary to preserve the unique attributes of the community.

The character of the town today is a result of prominent members of Seattle society selecting this peninsula of land jutting into Lake Washington as their summer place or permanent residence.  The area proved increasingly attractive to those having the means and desiring a protected enclave style of living while preserving nearby natural vegetation and wildlife systems.

They have a grand 4th of July celebration and now maintain the beautiful Wetherill Nature Preserve; a parcel of 16 acres deeded to the towns of Yarrow Point and Hunts Point by former residents whose ancestors purchased the property in 1894.

Yarrow Point residents have always been known for their philanthropic involvement with many groups like the Red Cross, Overlake Service League, and Yarrow Garden Club.  Even a Scottish land developer gave the town something in 1907, too --- all the streets with Scottish names!

Population was 1,001 at the 2010 census.  Residents are very affluent, well educated, and with children in 1/3 of all households, Yarrow Point probably does more than their fair share to support the merchants at Bellevue Square!
